WHY YOGA?

The Healing Benefits

If you have been practicing yoga, even for a short time, you will have already experienced some of the benefits.  But, if you are relatively new to yoga, you may be wondering "why should I do yoga?"

Here's a shortlist:

1. Increased Mobility - most types of yoga include strengthening and stretching components which lead to an improved range of motion in joints

2. Decreased Stress - breathing techniques and yoga postures help to calm the mind and the body

3. Increased Body Awareness and Self Acceptance

4. Improved Posture

Many scientific studies have been conducted that confirm the efficacy of a yoga practice in healing specific issues and also in the overall improvement of health.

ABOUT JEN

I was drawn to yoga in 2003 after experiencing some hip issues related to running. Not only did yoga help me feel better physically, but I was pleasantly surprised by the positive role the practice took on in my life. I am passionate about sharing my experience and knowledge with students.

 

In my classes, I offer frequent alignment cues, breath reminders and options in poses.  My goal is to help students of all levels work with their unique anatomy to use yoga as a tool to improve their health and well-being.

 

My Education:

-200 hour Yoga Teacher Training with Lila Rasa Brown

-300 hour Yoga Therapy course with Chelsea Lee (both at the Vancouver School of Healing Arts)

-Enrolled in Advanced Teacher Training with Semperviva Yoga

GROUP  CLASSES

I teach three yoga classes on Zoom per week: Mondays 6pm -Restorative (CHANGEpain Clinic); Wednesdays 4:30pm - Gentle Hatha (please email me for details) and Thursdays 5pm - Yoga for Men. I teach one in person class: Mondays 8:15am - Power (Ron Zalko Fitness & Yoga).

PRIVATE YOGA

I offer private yoga for individuals who would like more attention than is offered in a group yoga class. Whether you are a beginner who would like some instruction on how to safely get in and out of poses or a seasoned practitioner with specific questions, private yoga offers a supported space to address your individual requests.

YOGA THERAPY

Yoga Therapy differs from Private Yoga in that individuals bring a specific issue that is holding them back from living their life to the fullest.  Some examples of issues are: recovery from surgery or injury; lower back, shoulder, neck, hip or wrist pain.

If you have been going to Physiotherapy or other post surgery/injury therapy but are not quite ready to dive into a group class environment, yoga therapy may be right for you.


During the first session, I conduct an interview to get the history of the issue and to determine what activities are challenging for you.  From there we work together to find out what yoga postures and/or breathing techniques are best to help you to regain your mobility. Finally, we put together a plan, including a home practice, to work toward getting back to the activities that you love.

COUPLES YOGA

I work with couples who are looking to practice yoga while enjoying some time to connect on the mat. I conduct an interview in the first session then put together a plan that works for your individual needs.  All levels welcome!

FEES

For Private Yoga, Yoga Therapy & Couples Yoga:

Initial session $70

Ongoing sessions $60

The initial session is 75 minutes.  All ongoing sessions are 60 minutes.

For Small Group classes:

Drop-ins $20 (in person) $10 (on Zoom)
